John Ortberg’s book, God Is Closer Than You Think, has been sitting on my nightstand for nearly 5-years. About time I get around to reading it! And once I started, it was finished quickly. This is a simple book that touches on a difficult topic: why does intimacy with God elude us?

The answer to the question is … well, you need to read it yourself. I think the quality of this book is shown by the fact that John doesn’t offer just one answer. It’s a complex question that takes a complex answer. Despite that, I like how John manages to integrate some very deep thoughts into the language of the common person. John is a friend of mine, though we seldom find time to connect, and I know he’s a truly brilliant thinker. I’m thankful he finds a way to dumb down his thinking so guys like me can understand it!
