Porsche 911: Perfection by Design, by Randy Leffingwell
I’ve owned several Porsches’ over the years, including several 911’s. They are GREAT cars and an absolutely blast to drive. So as you might guess, I enjoyed Porsche 911: Perfection by Design by Randy Leffingwell.
This books traces the evolution of the 911 from its roots as the Porsche 356 to the current sixth generation of the car (the 997 model). Each chapter discusses the changes made to the car and the decision making process to upgrade the car. It’s fairly balanced and describes the great moves and the not so great decisions.
One interesting insight is how Porsche is less customer-centric than most car manufacturers and simply focuses on continual improvement. A great example is how American feedback to build a convertible 911 was largely ignored by the German car company. Then a Southern California dealer started converting the coupes into convertibles … and they were a huge hit. Porsche finally took notice.
If you are a Porsche fan like me, or if you just like cars, you’ll enjoy this book.
