The Bourne Legacy, by Eric Van Lustbader

I’m a huge fan of the Bourne books by Robert Ludlum. The first book, The Bourne Identity, was a huge hit. I read it while traveling Europe, which made it all the better. The movies starring Matt Damon are not true to the books, but they are great movies. I haven’t seen the latest movie based on this book … but hope to sometime.

Sadly, Robert Ludlum has passed. Yet the series continues and Eric Van Lustbader picked up the stories with The Bourne Legacy. It’s a solid effort, but it lacks a lot of the style that Ludlum brought to the stories. At times this book reads like a long outline of a movie script. And it is long, far too long with entirely too many detailed descriptions of fight scenes and whatnot.

I could do without a lot of the violence and manufactured angst of the characters. But it was a fun book to read on vacation. It’s trash, but it’s fun and entertaining.
