The Meaning of Marriage, by Tim Keller
Tim Keller’s book The Meaning of Marriage: Facing the Complexities of Commitment with the Wisdom of God is a powerful book that doesn’t pull any punches. It’s straightforward Biblical perspectives on marriage, divorce, sex, being single, and all the rest.
Written in a classic Keller style, filled with insight, compassion, and intellectual horsepower, it’s a good book to read at any stage in your life. I’ve been married 31 years and found it insightful. And I know singles who have never been married who will learn a lot from it.
Perhaps the one thing that the book lacks is the caveat that not all situations fall into the same narrative. Keller makes important and wise statements, but they can lack nuance. That’s understandable: there are billions of people in the world and you can’t cover everybody’s unique situation in one book. But I do wish Keller acknowledged that more readily.
Otherwise, a helpful and informative book. Definitely worth reading if this topic is timely for you.
