Think Like A Freak
Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner have tapped into a gold mine with their Freakonomics books, and their latest publication Think Like a Freak: The Authors of Freakonomics Offer to Retrain Your Brain continues the trend.
What is Freakonomics? Imagine Malcolm Gladwell meeting economic theorists, and you end up with a Freakonomics book. But probably more Gladwell than economics.
If you like the Freakonomics books, you’ll enjoy this one. It’s basically the same theme with different stories (both well researched and anecdotal). Although the title promises to retrain your brain, it doesn’t really. It simply encourages you to think analytically with the actual facts. Not sure a single book can retrain our always wandering and creative minds to suddenly be nothing but rational!
A fun book, well worth reading, even if the conclusions can be a bit broad. It is filled with surprise endings to stories and interviews, and it contains content you’ll enjoy finding on their podcasts. Actually, at times it feels like a book made up of podcasts, especially if you listen to the book (as I did) instead of reading it. Even so, it’s fun. And I’ll probably buy their fourth book when it comes out too.
