My friend Scott Sabin is President of Floresta. I’ve known Scott since 1993 when we met at an event hosted by Target Earth (I am the co-founder of Target Earth and was Chair of the Board back then). Scott has worked hard to build Floresta into a significant organization. They’ve been “under the radar” for many years and they are now rightfully receiving the recognition they deserve. What prompted this blog entry is the recent article in Christianity Today magazine about Floresta, which is not yet online but will be at www.christianitytoday.com.
Things were different in 1993 for those of us working on Creation Care issues. We were the outsiders, the liberals, the wackos. Today we see the National Association of Evangelicals promoting climate change legislation and the President of the Southern Baptist Convention signing a climate initiative statement. It’s great to see how the seeds we sowed a couple of decades ago are bearing fruit today.
So just for fun, I’m reposting a link to a hilarious article about environmentalists being fascists. I post this because it mentions me as founder of Target Earth and also mentions Floresta (we’re both part of the eco-fascist conspiracy, apparently). You can read this article by clicking here. Hopefully you’ll get a laugh out of this nonsense; I know I did!
Scott and I got a lot of flak like this over the years. He persevered, and I admire him for that. Keep it up, Scott!
