Okay, so here is a book everybody should read. I don’t say that often, and I guess I’m overstating it here to make a point, but this really is an excellent read.
Mike & Danae Yankoski, friends of mine and former PathLight volunteers, have put together a “practical guide to social justice.” And indeed it is. Zealous Love is a unique collection of short articles on human trafficking, unclean water, refugees, hunger, education, environment, HIV/AIDS, and inequality.
The list of writers is simply outstanding…but of course my favorite is my own daughter, Rachel! Well done, honey! Also in the book, but clearly in Rachel’s shadow, are friends such as Bob Goff (who I went to elementary school with), David Batstone (who I went to college with), Michael Thoeresz (who worked in the Belizean village where most of PathLight’s programs started), Scott Rodin (a family friend of PathLight directors Mark and Adrienne Parcher), Marilyn McEntyre (a professor at Westmont where I serve on the Board of Trustees), and Carter Crockett (a serial entrepreneur like myself and fellow Westmont alum). Oh, and to add a bit more, there are sections by Eugene Peterson, Francis Chan, Shane Claiborne…you get the idea.
Here’s hoping the book does exceptionally well. It should, because it is timely, thoughtful, and filled with insights from people who I admire greatly. Go buy it, read it, and I think you’ll agree!
