Last week was not an easy one. We finalized the sale of Hana, which was frantic and challenging and ultimately disappointing. I didn’t want to sell, but my hand was forced by a combination of the banking crisis and the extreme slowdown in Hawaiian tourism. It will be missed, though many friends in Hana will still be close to my heart.
D’Aun lost her uncle. He was in his 80’s, lived a long and productive life, and was what one might call the “salt of the earth” type. A good man, a farmer, a tough Texan. He had been struggling for some time, but it’s still tough to lose a family member. I felt especially bad for my father-in-law who lost his only sibling.
And then there is Geoff Haskell. Oh, how sad this story is. A young man in the prime of life, a wonderful family, infinite possibilities for his future…Geoff was the kind of guy we all aspire to be. Then he was diagnosed with colon cancer. His brother-in-law Kevin has put a few entries on his blog that say things better than I can, so I encourage you to read his latest. Geoff will be dearly missed and his life on this earth was entirely too short.
