For the last nine months PathLight has been searching for a new Belize Program Director. The search was international in scope and included dozens of good candidates. The process took longer than we anticipated, but that’s common when it is so important to find the right person.
The great news is that an incredible young leader has filled the position. Bryant Kong is our new Belize Program Director. He and his wife Hyojung, along with their young son, will be moving to Belize in late June.
Bryant brings great passion and energy to this position. Born and raised in San Francisco, he has earned a business degree from Wheaton College and is currently working on an advanced degree in spiritual formation. Not surprisingly, he is a strong advocate for the integration of faith and learning.
For the last few years Bryant has been based in Seoul, Korea, providing business leaders with cross-cultural training. Before that Bryant spent two years coordinating tsunami relief efforts and organizing short-term teams in Thailand. His experience in both ministry and business brings a unique set of skills that will be invaluable in Belize.
Bryant will be working with our long time Facility Director, Antonio Bol, to bring teams to Belize for service projects. He will also be working with our Youth Pastor, Louis Wade, in strengthening the spiritual and academic programs for the students and teachers of Belize. I’m also excited that Bryant dreams big, so who knows what new PathLight venture may come from his work there.
It was a joy to interview Bryant and process ideas with him. Everybody at PathLight is excited that he has agreed to take on this position. Bryant’s skills will advance the vision of serving at-risk students. Truly, Bryant and Hyojung are an answer to prayer.
Speaking of prayer, please add the Kong family to your prayer list. This is a big transition for anybody but especially for a young family. Please also be praying for the ongoing planning of the Teacher Training Conference. While I’m making requests, please pray for the PathLight team in Belize as they make decisions about the next class of students to be admitted (more on that next month).
Thank you for your support and prayer. All of us at PathLight appreciate you and can see the fruit of your faithfulness. It’s an exciting time for this work and you are a critical part of the team. Bryant and Hyojung may be at the forefront, but we all rely on you to make it happen!
