D’Aun and I arrived in Napa yesterday and settled into our rental home for a week. I’m calling this our “anniversary week” as we spend time together in this beautiful part of the world. Our kids and a couple of friends will be joining us this weekend, but most our time is by ourselves (as it should be).
The house we rented has a beautiful setting. Like most rentals it has a few flaws, but take a look at this view! See those vineyards in the distance? They are owned by one of our favorite family wineries, Tofanelli Family Vineyard. If you read this blog you know how much we love that wine, so seeing the vineyards each time we look outside is a great way to spend a week!
Yesterday afternoon we did a tasting at Robert Biale Vineyards, and I gotta tell you they create outstanding wine. Their zinfandels are incredible, but they also make a lovely sauvignon blanc and a good syrah. Then last night we had dinner at SolBar in Calistoga. Given one star by Michelin, the food was very very good. The wine list was incredible, of course, and the sommelier nailed it for me by suggesting a Fisher Family cabernet sauvignon.
But of course this trip isn’t all about food and wine. D’Aun and I love spending time together, talking about life, making plans for future things, sharing stories about the 30-years we’ve spent together. It really is a joy to spend time with her. The investment of time like this reminds us both why we married each other. Just look at this gorgeous babe below! I’m a lucky guy.
More later … hoping to post pictures here from time to time!
