A friend mentioned his use of the devotional book Moravian Daily Texts, so I thought I’d give it a try. It’s been with me for almost a year now as I work through the daily devotionals and Scripture readings. It follows a calendar year, so I’m not done yet, but it’s such a nice collection of readings, prayers and insights that it seemed wise to mention it now. It could be a great stocking stuffer for somebody you know!
The layout is simple: daily Scripture readings, a short devotional in the form of a prayer, and then references for reading through all of the Bible in a single year. The daily readings are enjoyable and tie in nicely with the devotionals. The devotionals are no more than a paragraph long, and they come in the form of a prayer that adds a degree of intimacy with God. Thus you read a couple of verses and then recite a prayer. It’s a nice, simple, easy to follow procedure that I can get done in about 5-minutes each day.
Then there are those little notes that can guide you through the entire Bible in a year. I did not do this so can’t speak with experience, but I checked a lot of them and found the pattern to be consistently good. This is a high quality process borne of hundreds of years in the making. The Moravian Church doesn’t mess around — they know what works and they just keep on doing it!
I liked this book and can see myself getting the 2013 version (the link for this is below). You might enjoy it as well, or at least know somebody who might. Let me know what you think if you follow it next year!
