An open letter to all:
William Butler Yeats once said, “an education is not the filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire.” At PathLight we couldn’t agree more.
PathLight helps children in rural Belize receive an education. When you join us as a donor, a volunteer, a prayer partner or all of these, you are lighting the fire of a child’s passion and potential for the rest of their lives. And as people of faith, these PathLight students are taking the fire and changing lives.
Rubi (pictured) is a great example. With PathLight’s help Rubi graduated from high school – something very few children from her small village accomplish – and fulfilled her promise to her father before he died. Not only did she earn a high school diploma, she graduated valedictorian!
We celebrate this wonderful accomplishment and we celebrate even more that a fire was lit in Rubi’s life to do something extraordinary with her education. Now she is at the University of Belize pursuing a degree in teaching so she can return to her village to educate and inspire the next generation.
We’re calling our year-end campaign Lighting Fires because that’s what you are doing through PathLight: Lighting Fires in the lives of children like Rubi and impacting an entire nation in the process.
I hope you can join us in Lighting Fires this holiday season.
Roy
