Family, Goble Properties, Junkyard Management,

Ernie Casseta

Ernie

ErnieIt was the late 1930’s when my Dad first came to San Jose, and one of the first friends he made was the legendary Ernie Casseta. They were part of the automotive business community that thrived along South First Street. My Dad sold parts to Mr. Casseta, who used them to fix up the inventory on his used car lot. They were lifelong friends.

I lost touch with Mr. Casseta when Dad passed ten years ago. But just recently Aimee at the Goble Properties office sent me a note saying Ernie Casseta called and he was looking for me. I was elated and immediately called him back. We set up a time to meet for lunch because he wanted to tell me stories about my Dad.

How could I pass that up? Even my two adult children, eager to hear stories about their Grandpa, took the time to join us.

In his mid-90’s now, Ernie isn’t the spry guy I remember. But he’s still has his great wit, and he still loves to tell a story. He’d ask me how I was doing, listen, then say, “That reminds me of when your Dad and I….” To my delight I found out he is still running Ernie’s Auto Sales on South 1st Street.

It was a wonderful lunch and a joy to reconnect. And in keeping with my Dad’s friendship those many years ago, we’ve even helped each other on a business deal!

If you’d like to read more about this San Jose legend, this is a nice write up about a very good guy.
