As readers of this blog know, the work PathLight does in Belize is among my favorite ministries. Recently the CEO of PathLight, Roger Dermody, wrote the letter below announcing the launch of a new campaign built around Abundant Joy. I’m sharing it here in whole because it is so good!
Dear Friends,
I am writing this letter after spending a week in Belize surrounded by people who have what the Apostle Paul describes as “abundant joy” in his letter to the Corinthians. In the midst of poverty, with no obvious way out, the people Paul wrote to embraced joy – and they did so abundantly! Just last week, I saw this same abundant joy – as many of you have when you visited us in Belize.
There is joy on the face of a very proud mom and dad as they see their son or daughter dressed in full graduation regalia of cap and gown, walking across the stage, receiving their diploma, thus opening up a new world of possibilities for their future.
There is joy in the tears of the mom who met her son’s sponsor and was overwhelmed with gratitude.
At PathLight, there is Abundant Joy.
There is joy in the faces of our sponsored students when they:
Grasp that math concept thanks to their tutor.
Feel understood and supported when they share that struggle with their mentor.
Bow at the end of a PathLight choir performance.
Discover they are on their school’s honor roll.
Score the winning goal for the PathLight soccer team.
Receive a note or gift from their sponsor.
Get their acceptance letter for the Belize Business Summer Internship.
See God work in a powerful way: taking care of their family, providing for their needs, and healing that illness.
I am abundantly joyful for every one of you who have decided to support the mission and ministry of PathLight. Why? Because I know you have many other choices you can make, and yet you choose to support this work. Because I know that every gift you make directly impacts the lives of a bunch of kids in Belize, who otherwise don’t have much reason to be joyful.
Thank you for bringing Abundant Joy to Belize. This Christmas season, would you please consider an end-of-year gift that will spread this abundant joy to even more children and families?
Joyfully,
Rev. Dr. Roger A Dermody – CEO
