Last week was the Goble Properties staff retreat in Napa Valley, and it was great to spend time with some of my favorite people. The last few years have been very busy so it was good to pause and take a deep breath. We hadn’t taken the time for a retreat in seven years — way too long!
We had breakfasts outside in the crisp mornings, rode bikes to nearby wineries, explored downtown Calistoga, and generally goofed off about half the time. Over the 3-day event we tasted wines at two different wineries: Lava Vines and Mi Sueno. In the evenings we had exceptional dinners at Cindy’s Backstreet Kitchen one night and Press the other night. Throughout it all the Solage Resort was an amazing host.
It wasn’t all fun and games; we also got our work done! Our first morning was focused on the history of Goble Properties, which the newest members of our team seemed to really appreciate. Then after watching the Simon Sinek video “Start With Why” we spent time going through the “why” of our work and how it impacts communities.
The next day was focused on how to update the Goble Properties website (which is long overdue) and make the site more robust. Last year I read Building a Storybrand by Donald Miller and loved it, so earlier this year I asked the team to read it before they came to Napa. Miller’s insights guided us through strategic ideas for the website that should result in a more helpful experience for our clients.
The takeaway for me is how great our team is. These are wonderful people who really care about our tenants, our buildings, and our company values. D’Aun and I are proud of them and sincerely honored they would invest their energies toward building a great company.
Below are a few pictures of the great people we work with enjoying our time together!
