Great news! I’ve signed a contract to write Junkyard Wisdom Rebuilt for release in 2022! I’ve been working on this book for some time now, and it’s exciting to see it come together.
Books capture a moment in time, and my first book Junkyard Wisdom came out just as dramatic change was beginning in the world. Over the last few years we have witnessed many world changing events, including a tumultuous Presidency (no matter your take on Trump, you have to admit it was different!), hurricanes in Belize, a coup in Myanmar, another coup in Thailand, and of course Covid-19. As a result, parts of the book needed updating. We actually ended changing more than expected as ideas began to roll!
So Junkyard Wisdom Rebuilt is, well, the title says it — it’s rebuilt!
When I was growing up we often had rebuilt cars. One of my first was a Buick that had an engine from one car, a front end from another, and a rear quarter from a third. And it was a great car! When my wife D’Aun suggested this book was “rebuilt” it just fit perfectly as the title — it’s updated, revised, pulled from both new and old sources.
Readers of the first book will find a comfortable familiarity in Junkyard Wisdom Rebuilt, and new readers will be introduced to the messy, complicated, sometimes contradictory outlook on life that I’ve learned to love. The central focus remains the same: resisting the whisper of wealth in a world of broken parts.
Wealth can be a powerful tool or a dangerous hindrance … and sometimes both at the same time. Thus the need to ask questions in a junkyard way: gritty, honest, and rooted in real life. If we choose to live our lives in a way that intentionally resists the whisper of wealth, we’ll create a mess along the way. I believe that’s the good kind of mess, though, the kind where wrestling with truth, justice, and love—often in chaotic ways—gets us closer to the kind of people we want to be.
And the kind of world we want to share with others.
Rebuilt is sure to become even better as I work with the folks at Deep River Books. And the release is still a year away. But if you’d like to be on the launch team let me know. It would be fun to collaborate with you!
