Sully is the donkey Mary rode on when she and Joseph made the journey to Bethlehem. Scholars have long argued about the name, but I have it on good authority that it was Sully. Granted, the “good authority” has the mind and imagination of a 5-year old, but truth is truth, right?
The Advent devotions introduced Sully and he was an immediate hit. He was then in the recent Easter devotions, and once again he stole the show. You know an idea works when people start requesting a book about the character! Sully generated that kind of reaction and more.
A new devotion series starts soon, but Sully has resisted being a part of them. As they say in the business, he has gone Hollywood. I was so disappointed and muttering, “Bray it ain’t so.”
Have your doubts that a donkey would go Hollywood? Just look at the picture at the top of this blog post and you’ll see what I mean.
The good news is that after extensive negotiations, an overabundance of treats, and several belly rubs, Sully and his agent, Indy, have agreed to a cameo in the upcoming devotions (it was too late to write him into more than just a couple of scenes). The contract is for multiple series and was signed using DonkeySign. Sully received a 50 pound bag of wet cob natural feed as an advance. Presumably Indy gets part of that for his commission.
So yes, Sully is back. And you can read more starting May 29 when the new devotion series begins. It’s called Pop’s Pool Hall, and I think you’re going to like it.
If you received this from me via email, then you are already signed up for the devotions. Please encourage others to sign up by entering their email here.
Last thing, here is a picture of Sully and his agent after the signing. You can see they are excited about their future with the Junkyard Wisdom™ community.
