Hurricane Update, Year End Request

Hey all! You have probably heard about the hurricane damage done to the PathLight mission and conference center in Belize. Well, I have great news:  the funds needed to repair the hurricane damage have been received or pledged! The response has been so fast and so encouraging … all of us at PathLight have smiles on our faces! Thanks to everybody who helped in this effort.  The repairs are well underway and will be done in time for the busy season.  Thank you again!

A special word of thanks to Paul Qualls, a friend of PathLight and member of our …

PathLight Christmas Letter

A year ago I sent a letter to friends of PathLight, and it was so well received that I’m posting it here as my Christmas wish to you. I hope you enjoy it.

David L. Fleming writes, “The son of God became poor by becoming incarnate. He embraced poverty in the circumstances of his earthly life. God was born in a stable manger and was given the name Jesus. His parents fled with him as refugees to escape a murderous tyrant. Later he lived a simple workman’s life in Nazareth. He became an itinerant preacher and teacher, without wife …

Hurricane Richard Update

In my last post I mentioned the damage to the PathLight facility in Belize.  I arrived in Belize yesterday and have walked the property, talked with our directors, and discussed options with our maintenance supervisor.  It’s not a pretty picture.  Hurricane Richard left a wake of damage to the surrounding countryside that defies description.

The PathLight facility took a direct hit.  Of the fourteen buildings on the facility, twelve have damage.  One is essentially ruined, though we might be able to salvage parts of the building.  This particular building (cabana #6 to those of you who have been here) had …

Hurricane Richard

In late October, Belize was hit hard by Hurricane Richard. The eye of the hurricane went right over Belmopan and left a wave of devastation in its wake. Everybody is thankful there were no fatalities during the storm, which is really amazing. But there was massive damage to the infrastructure. Mark Parcher and I did the math and the economic impact on Belize is the equivalent of a $20 billion impact on the United States.

A few of the PathLight students and their families saw personal losses such as rain damage to the interiors of their homes (some kids lost …

The Conclusion of the Matter

So it’s over. The month of October flew by fast and my sabbatical break from work and ministry is finished. A few folks have asked how I feel about that, and I must say that it is good to be back at work. Loved the break, but I’m eager to reengage with the many fun things that I have going.

Would I do some things differently? Yes, of course. The email fast was just a bit too long to be pragmatic. No fast on web surfing was a mistake. Next time I want D’Aun more involved, and next time it’s …

The House of the Lord

My month long break begins today. Hallelujah!

For the last month and for the month to come, I’ve been working through prayers and readings in the book “Celtic Daily Prayer”. The Morning Prayer begins like this:

One thing I have asked of the Lord,
this is what I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life;
to behold the beauty of the Lord
and to seek Him in His temple.

This comes from Psalm 27:4. I love this start because it expresses the foundation of this sabbatical month. Dwelling in the …
