Give Your Car!

I have a request. Do you have a car or truck you’ve thought about donating? PathLight needs one urgently for the programs in Belize.

Last month one of our volunteer teachers, Dwight, was driving our Toyota and was hit broadside by a bus. Thankfully the student in the passenger side is fine, but Dwight had broken bones and a big scare. You can see in the picture how the bus hit flush with where he was sitting. Dwight flew back to the States for medical treatment and after a few surgeries will be okay.

But PathLight is out one vehicle. …

Tono the Builder

A friend recently took on the challenge of reading through the Bible in 90-days. It seemed overly ambitious to me, but it had the appeal of an outrageous idea so I decided to give it a try.

I am two weeks into the three-month journey. It has forced me to read parts of Scripture that I normally overlook. Usually this is a chore – it’s not very interesting to read all the begets!

Yet in the midst of the tedious parts are little jewels. Take Bezalel and Oholiab. Not exactly household names, are they? Yet they receive special mention in …

Junkyard Wisdom is 4-years old now. Topics have bounced from leadership ideas to wine reviews, from PathLight updates to family stories, and a wide range beyond all that. All of it has reflected my range of interests and ideas.

After four years of this, it’s time to again ask what you have enjoyed most. I can easily look at the data and see what posts were the most popular, but sometimes popularity isn’t the same as having an impact. A quick example: the most visited post of all time was a book review, but that’s mostly because the author promoted …

PathLight Lightsabers

The security guards at PathLight do not carry guns, but they have LIGHTSABERS! Definitely a safe and protected feeling have them patrol the area around my cabana here in Belize!

I’ve been here the last few days and been so thankful for the good people that make this ministry work. Reggie, the guy carrying the lightsaber, is such a gentle soul … despite how he looks in the photo! It’s a great team of people here in Belize, as well as back in the States, and I’m proud to work with them.

Last night we had the college students over …

You Did It!

You did it! Your generosity has helped PathLight match the $35,000 gift!

When we tallied up all the gifts that came in by December 31st it totaled $45,787. We were able to get all of it matched, so your support has provided PathLight with a total of $91,574 to launch us into our 7th year!

Thank you for everything. The financial gifts, the prayer, the words of encouragement, the people you connected us with … it all came together because of your time, treasure and talent.

Christmas Memories

My hope is that yesterday you had a wonderful Christmas Day filled with good memories!

The day after Christmas is when I like to ponder what memories were made. I try to let it sink in so that I will always remember the good things about the day. Sometimes those memories are deeply meaningful and even spiritual. But admittedly, sometimes they are simply about a lot of fun!

For instance, I will never forget the Christmas when my parents gave me a new bike. It was a candy apple red Sting Ray (this was the early 60’s, after all) and …

Christmas Greeting

This year PathLight sent a letter from all the staff. I like the letter (I wrote it, so I should!) but the real fun is seeing all the signatures. They are a little fuzzy on this blog, but it’s amazing how many people work for PathLight. They are doing amazing things! Here is the letter and signature page:

Merry Christmas! What a treasure it is to celebrate the birth of our Savior. Immanuel, God is with us. Could there be anything more worthy of celebration? It is easy to forget this. We overlook that God is indeed with us. Our

PathLight Sponsorship Report Card

On my last trip to Belize I met with the PathLight sponsorship students who were attending college or university. These young men and women were the first PathLight students to make it through High School, and as such were the ones we made all of our mistakes on! So I wanted to ask them how we did. Basically, I asked them to turn the tables and give us a report card.

I loved the conversation. Not so much because of the things I learned about what we did right or wrong (though that was worthwhile), but because these young men …
