How You Can Make a Difference

PathLight’s $70k for the 7th Year campaign continues to move forward this month, and I’m excited to see the response! I thought it would help to share why your support matters, so here are the three ways the funds will be used:

First, nineteen (19) students waiting for sponsorship will receive the support, guidance and encouragement they need for a successful year of high school. The PathLight Sponsorship Program identifies promising students who have completed 8th Grade but need assistance to continue their education into high school.

These are students like Alex. Alex’s family has a small shop that provides …

Advent

Sometimes I read something and am awed by the wisdom some people have. This seems to happen a lot when I come across the writings of Lesslie Newbigin. The quote below, sent to me by a good friend, strikes just the right chord at this time of year:

“The Advent faith is the faith that there are really new possibilities for our world. It means that we have a certain skepticism towards this world. We do not act as if this was the only possible world… are sure that this other world is not just a dream, but that it

You Can Impact a Nation!

What would you say to the idea that you have an opportunity to impact an entire nation? You actually do.

It’s not something I say lightly – in fact, the very idea of it makes me nervous! But it also stuns me how God has put PathLight in a position to impact the entire nation of Belize.

You are part of that impact. Actually, you drive the change through your time, talent and treasure. This month we have a matching gift opportunity to launch PathLight into its seventh year, so I wanted to share how significant your impact could be …

$70k for 7!

My PathLight letters often begin with an update and a welcome. But this month I got right to the point because the news is so important.

PathLight has a $35,000 matching gift offer, and we need your help to match it. Once matched, this will provide $70,000 to launch PathLight into its 7th year (yes, it really is the start of our 7th year). It’s a great opportunity.

It all begins with your gift. And now more than ever it matters.

Nineteen young boys and girls can complete a year of school. Over 150 teachers can sharpen their teaching …

An Amazing Month

I seldom think of a particular month as “amazing”, but November seems to qualify.  A lot of good things happened this month and I’m deeply thankful for them.  It began with the racing day at Sonoma Raceway, followed by a fun day with the SF Westmont Urban students at our home.  There was the incredible D’Oliva harvest, and then we got an offer on a property we’ve tried to sell for over a year (and it closed within 3-weeks).  In the middle of the month I had lunch with a new friend, and within a week he had …

Cyber Monday

Tomorrow is called Cyber Monday because the online shopping sites are running special promotions. If you are going to shop anyway, why not shop through my blog? Amazon will give me a small percentage of the sale, which I will then donate to PathLight. It’s a win win for everybody.

And it doesn’t have to be just this Monday. You can do this all season long. Actually, all year long, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It’s a simple and easy way to put a few dollars into the hands of a good organization doing some incredible …

If My Nail Breaks….

I’ve asked friend and colleague Andrea Rodriguez to be a guest blogger on Junkyard Wisdom today. Andrea is one of the least likely people to be on a blog with the word junkyard in it. I call her the Belizean Oprah because she hosts a daytime TV talk show in Belize — not exactly the image of junkyard tough. But Andrea has a strength of character that belies her Divaz Next Door image (that really is the name of the TV show). Her energy and enthusiasm for impacting the youth of Belize is fun to see, and her husband Dion …

Roy and Mark in Belize

I was in Belize a week or so ago. Mark Parcher and I sat down and did this short video about our shared history of prayer. Thought you might enjoy seeing it. We did this in one take, kind of making it up as we go (we had minimal cheat sheets). But it’s an easy story for the two of us to tell because we’ve known each other for so long. Neither of us plan to be late night infomercial pitchmen, so I think we did a pretty good job considering our skills!
