The Runner Up

Time to announce the winner of the Blog Name Contest ….

First, the runner up. Jolene Flores’ nomination of “Uncorked” was wildly popular with nearly everybody who has an interest in wine, a love of good food, or who has enjoyed Goble hospitality (which, to be fair, is primarily D’Aun’s hospitality). It’s a great name for a blog because it has meaning on multiple levels. There’s the obvious meaning of an uncorked bottle of wine, which implies a good meal (or a wild party). An uncorked bottle has many cultural and religious overtones, which is ideal for the topics I …

Blog Name Part II

The nominations have been made. Serious deliberation has ensued. Wine has been opened. The ridiculous has been taken far too seriously. Bad spelling has been overlooked. And far too many inside jokes have been shared….leading us to the Elite Eight.

That’s right, there are 8 possible nominees for the naming of this blog. To eliminate bias, I’ve kept the nominees confidential (though it’s not hard to figure out based on facebook postings and comments on the entry below this). If they win, they get a bottle of really really good wine. If they lose, they probably get a bottle anyway, …

Blog name

Several people have pointed out that this blog has a really dumb name. “Roy Goble’s Blog” isn’t exactly an inspiration. Descriptive, yes, but …. still lacking.

I’ve thought about changing the name to something that reflects my life. How about “Chaotic”? Or possibly “living in the tension”? Both taken. “Junkyard dog”? Kind of a cliche, but still reasonably accurate. As a teenager at the junkyard my nickname was “the kid” but that’s kind of silly for a 50-something man.

Friends of mine have cool names for their blogs. The Temple. The Moxy Project. Let’s Put the Kettle On.
