I’m way too lazy to do a real book tour. But a blog tour sounds doable!

Maybe you remember the days when authors would go on book tours. They’d show up at the local bookstore to talk or read from their book, sign a few copies, and then head on to the next town. Some still do that.

But the more efficient way is to do a blog tour — a combination of interviews, reviews, conversations, even podcasts, all from the comfort of my computer screen. I get fewer frequent flyer miles, but it’s far easier!

Okay, so I’m officially bewildered. When I started writing a book I kept wondering who would actually buy it. Sure, I knew friends and family would. And I could give a lot away as gifts for people who support the nonprofits I love.

But I never expected to be the #1 new release on Amazon! And there it is. Junkyard Wisdom, my little side project meant to be self-published, is the #1 new release in Christian Stewardship on Amazon.

Of course this might just mean 12 people ordered it on a slow day when other books sold 11! …

It’s starting to seem real now!

With the release of the book just two months away it’s starting to seem real now! My publisher just posted this about the book, which is a great explanation of the theme and focus of my writing. Let me know what you think!

The last few weeks have been filled with edits, galley reviews, cover details, and on and on. It’s all fun of course, but there’s a ton of detail involved. The book release is less than 90-days away, so I’m gearing up for the marketing. One key way to get the word out is to have a “blog tour” around October 1st.

Celebrity Philanthropy Gone Wild

It’s tempting to blast celebrities (or political candidates, though there isn’t much difference) for their public philanthropy.

Like the big name Hollywood actor who earned millions for doing a commercial, then let his publicist promote the story about him donating $10,000 to a local homeless shelter. I remember cynically thinking at the time, “Wow, so generous, you gave almost .1% of the income you earned doing a one day photo shoot.”
