Book Release

Two weeks ago I promised one more big announcement. But first a little background.

A few years ago my book Junkyard Wisdom Rebuilt was released. This was an updated version of my first book and it was a fun process to rethink my earlier perspectives. As my collaborative writer said, it’s a luxury most authors do not enjoy!

The release of the book was, at best, clumsy. We did most everything right on our end, but the pandemic was still influencing everything from printing to deliveries. Amazon didn’t even make the book available until a week after the release! I’m already bald, gray, and wrinkled, but the experience made me more so.

But we got through it, and the book was well received. It wasn’t a big seller because many had bought the original book. Still, it was good to share my latest thinking about wealth, poverty, faith, and justice.

Then a few months ago a literary agent asked me about releasing it as a paperback. I thought that was a great idea. We tweaked a few things on the cover, slightly edited the sub-title, and added John Ortberg’s original foreword.

So it’s fun to announce that Junkyard Wisdom Rebuilt: Generosity in a World of Broken Parts is now available in paperback and Kindle versions.

Should you read the book? Of course! But I’ll end this post by pasting the Amazon description below. Hopefully it encourages you to buy a copy!

A Raw, Honest, and Disruptive Call to Generosity That Goes Far Beyond Charity

Roy Goble doesn’t want your spare change. He wants your attention—and maybe even your comfort. In this provocative and heartfelt book, Goble challenges the conventional view of generosity as simply giving money, advice, or wisdom. Instead, he invites readers into a deeper, riskier, and far more transformative kind of giving: relational generosity.

This isn’t the kind of book that wraps hard truths in soft language. With the gritty honesty of someone who’s spent time in spiritual and literal junkyards, Roy flips the script on what it means to help others. He makes one thing crystal clear: we don’t give from a place of superiority—we give from a place of shared brokenness.

In the words of the foreword, “Sometimes it’s good for our hearts to be troubled.” And this book will trouble you—in all the right ways. Goble exposes the blind spots of affluence, confronts our entitlement, and reminds us that we’re all equally in need of grace, redemption, and community.

Perfect for readers who:
Are tired of feel-good charity models that don’t lead to real change
Want to move from transactional giving to transformational relationships
Are ready to be challenged—and changed—by the gospel’s call to love and justice

You’ll walk away from this book with:
– A renewed understanding of what it means to be generous
– A deep appreciation for the power of shared brokenness
– A bold invitation to join a movement that tears down walls and builds true community

Caution: This book may cause discomfort, soul-searching, and unexpected friendships.
