Christmas Memories

My hope is that yesterday you had a wonderful Christmas Day filled with good memories!

The day after Christmas is when I like to ponder what memories were made. I try to let it sink in so that I will always remember the good things about the day. Sometimes those memories are deeply meaningful and even spiritual. But admittedly, sometimes they are simply about a lot of fun!

For instance, I will never forget the Christmas when my parents gave me a new bike. It was a candy apple red Sting Ray (this was the early 60’s, after all) and …

Christmas Greeting

This year PathLight sent a letter from all the staff. I like the letter (I wrote it, so I should!) but the real fun is seeing all the signatures. They are a little fuzzy on this blog, but it’s amazing how many people work for PathLight. They are doing amazing things! Here is the letter and signature page:

Merry Christmas! What a treasure it is to celebrate the birth of our Savior. Immanuel, God is with us. Could there be anything more worthy of celebration? It is easy to forget this. We overlook that God is indeed with us. Our

PathLight Sponsorship Report Card

On my last trip to Belize I met with the PathLight sponsorship students who were attending college or university. These young men and women were the first PathLight students to make it through High School, and as such were the ones we made all of our mistakes on! So I wanted to ask them how we did. Basically, I asked them to turn the tables and give us a report card.

I loved the conversation. Not so much because of the things I learned about what we did right or wrong (though that was worthwhile), but because these young men …

How You Can Make a Difference

PathLight’s $70k for the 7th Year campaign continues to move forward this month, and I’m excited to see the response! I thought it would help to share why your support matters, so here are the three ways the funds will be used:

First, nineteen (19) students waiting for sponsorship will receive the support, guidance and encouragement they need for a successful year of high school. The PathLight Sponsorship Program identifies promising students who have completed 8th Grade but need assistance to continue their education into high school.

These are students like Alex. Alex’s family has a small shop that provides …

Belize, PathLight,

You Can Impact a Nation!

What would you say to the idea that you have an opportunity to impact an entire nation? You actually do.

It’s not something I say lightly – in fact, the very idea of it makes me nervous! But it also stuns me how God has put PathLight in a position to impact the entire nation of Belize.

You are part of that impact. Actually, you drive the change through your time, talent and treasure. This month we have a matching gift opportunity to launch PathLight into its seventh year, so I wanted to share how significant your impact could be …

Belize, Random Thoughts,

Coins on the Sidewalk

I found two things in a parking lot the other day.  Both were out of place, lost, and lonely.

The first thing I found was a Belizean quarter.  That’s worth about 12 US cents.  No idea how it got in the parking lot of a Pleasanton Home Depot, but it was.  Finding the coin struck me in a reflective way, and I began wondering what this little coin was doing here. It was lost. It would be scared in this big strange land. Certainly it would be lonely. All the other hot shot American coins were probably teasing it.

So …

Belize, PathLight,

$70k for 7!

My PathLight letters often begin with an update and a welcome. But this month I got right to the point because the news is so important.

PathLight has a $35,000 matching gift offer, and we need your help to match it. Once matched, this will provide $70,000 to launch PathLight into its 7th year (yes, it really is the start of our 7th year). It’s a great opportunity.

It all begins with your gift. And now more than ever it matters.

Nineteen young boys and girls can complete a year of school. Over 150 teachers can sharpen their teaching …

If My Nail Breaks….

I’ve asked friend and colleague Andrea Rodriguez to be a guest blogger on Junkyard Wisdom today. Andrea is one of the least likely people to be on a blog with the word junkyard in it. I call her the Belizean Oprah because she hosts a daytime TV talk show in Belize — not exactly the image of junkyard tough. But Andrea has a strength of character that belies her Divaz Next Door image (that really is the name of the TV show). Her energy and enthusiasm for impacting the youth of Belize is fun to see, and her husband Dion …
