Welcome Andy & Lisa!

One of the great resources that PathLight has is a beautiful conference center set in the Belizean rainforest at Jaguar Creek. Built under the canopy of the jungle, along a gorgeous creek, and just a few miles from the capital of the country, the PathLight conference center is an incredible place.

Today it is where a lot of the PathLight activities are based. The students gather at the beginning of the school year to get supplies. A few times a year the students visit to attend special events, such as when Brenda Salter-McNeil led her Racial Pride workshop. The Teacher …

Jaguar Creek

Nearly twenty years ago we had an idea to create a research and education center in the middle of the Belizean rainforest.  With the help of friends, family, the people of Belize, and of course a large dose of God-induced serendipity, it all came together in 1994.  Since then Jaguar Creek has been used in incredible ways.  Sitting on 700-acres of pristine rainforest, adjacent to another 1200-acres of protected lands and a National Park, it has been like a second home to my family.  Today it is part of the PathLight ministry and serves as a base for educational programs, …

Building Our PathLight Team

For the last nine months PathLight has been searching for a new Belize Program Director. The search was international in scope and included dozens of good candidates. The process took longer than we anticipated, but that’s common when it is so important to find the right person.

The great news is that an incredible young leader has filled the position. Bryant Kong is our new Belize Program Director. He and his wife Hyojung, along with their young son, will be moving to Belize in late June.

Bryant brings great passion and energy to this position. Born and raised in San …

Hurricane Update, Year End Request

Hey all! You have probably heard about the hurricane damage done to the PathLight mission and conference center in Belize. Well, I have great news:  the funds needed to repair the hurricane damage have been received or pledged! The response has been so fast and so encouraging … all of us at PathLight have smiles on our faces! Thanks to everybody who helped in this effort.  The repairs are well underway and will be done in time for the busy season.  Thank you again!

A special word of thanks to Paul Qualls, a friend of PathLight and member of our …

Hurricane Richard Update

In my last post I mentioned the damage to the PathLight facility in Belize.  I arrived in Belize yesterday and have walked the property, talked with our directors, and discussed options with our maintenance supervisor.  It’s not a pretty picture.  Hurricane Richard left a wake of damage to the surrounding countryside that defies description.

The PathLight facility took a direct hit.  Of the fourteen buildings on the facility, twelve have damage.  One is essentially ruined, though we might be able to salvage parts of the building.  This particular building (cabana #6 to those of you who have been here) had …

Hurricane Richard

In late October, Belize was hit hard by Hurricane Richard. The eye of the hurricane went right over Belmopan and left a wave of devastation in its wake. Everybody is thankful there were no fatalities during the storm, which is really amazing. But there was massive damage to the infrastructure. Mark Parcher and I did the math and the economic impact on Belize is the equivalent of a $20 billion impact on the United States.

A few of the PathLight students and their families saw personal losses such as rain damage to the interiors of their homes (some kids lost …
